Corkers without Borders

Wine heightens our enjoyment of everyday life, links us to the past and connects us to the natural world in a very tangible way.

MEETINGS

Corkers without Borders meet the first Friday of each month at 6:30 PM.

Our next meeting is Friday May 2nd at 6:30 pm at the home of Doug Ruebel in Oswego.   As we agreed at our March meeting, please let me know if you will not join us, so I can let our meeting host know how many Corkers to expect.   For directions E-mail basement_winemaker@yahoo.com.

Our May wine theme is wines from Down Under (Australia, New Zealand).   We will continue discussions about club trips, Jim's wines, and the Club Crush at harvest time.   I will introduce a new meeting topic -- the Wine Doctor.    Do you have a wine "in trouble", "bad", "embarassing", or in need of some type of explanation?   Bring a sample to the meeting and we will all discuss what could or should-have been done to improve it.

We will continue the monthly CWB winemaker competition.  Ken and I have had an email conversation about how to best manage keeping the contest entries anonymous.   Maintaining anonymity is important because it eliminates any judging biases so the wines will be objectively evaluated.  I came up with an idea which we will put into practice immediately.    The meeting host is requested to place an empty wine case outside the front door.    All bottles for that month’s contest should be placed in that wine case before entering the home.   You will still need to place your properly labeled bottles in a bag with your completed entry form.   See the wine contest Guidelines for further details.

What should you bring to the meeting?

·        Australian style wine – hand crafted preferred

·         $10 per person

·         Optional - wines to enter into the CWB contest.   Complete the entry form ahead of time according to the CWB contest Guidelines.

·         Optional – nibbles to share

See you then,

Deb
